Andalusia’s whitewashed mountain villages are common in the interior. These picturesque villages seem to be stuck to the mountain. Each village has something different, and each exudes a different atmosphere. Examples of these typical white mountain villages near Finca Las Nuevas are; \u00c1lora, C\u00e1rtama, Mijas Pueblo, and a little further away Frigiliana. The villages regularly host fiestas that provide a fun insight into Andalusian party life.<\/p>\n

Andalusia’s whitewashed mountain villages near Finca Las Nuevas<\/h2>\n

\u00c1lora<\/h2>\n

Our Finca belongs to the municipality of \u00c1lora. This village is the most authentic of the ones we describe here. It\u2019s located between three big mountains. On top of one of the mountains is a ruin of an old Moorish castle. Often the door is open and it is worth walking up for a look. From here you have a nice view of the village and its surroundings.<\/p>\n

The village has many narrow streets, some steep and with steps. Village life takes place on the central square where there are some restaurants, caf\u00e9s and terraces. <\/p>\n

Our tip: Especially on weekday mornings, it is pleasantly busy here with Spanish people talking loudly. This is also the best time you can visit the village. Siesta time is still really used here. <\/p>\n

After two in the afternoon and before six in the evening you have the streets almost to yourself, everyone is at home, and the shops are closed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

C\u00e1rtama<\/h2>\n

C\u00e1rtama has two village centres. C\u00e1rtama and C\u00e1rtama de Estaci\u00f3n. The oldest centre can be found in C\u00e1rtama. It is a relatively small authentic centre. From this old centre, a beautiful path winds uphill. Here you’ll find a small white church and, a bit higher, the ruins of a fortress. From here you have a nice view over the Guadalhorce valley. The white village of Frigiliana<\/h2>\n

This village is not quite near Finca Las Nuevas. But is fun to visit. Like Mijas, the village is crowded and it is located north of the seaside resort of Nerja.<\/p>\n

It is bigger than Mijas, and you can have a lovely stroll through the car-free streets here. With the occasional beautiful view of the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n

Mijas Pueblo<\/h2>\n

On the Costa, you have the modern high-rises of Mijas, but if you go into the mountains, there is another whitewashed mountain village called Mijas Pueblo. This is a super touristy whitewashed mountain village with plenty of souvenir shops. For some, too bad to visit, for others it is a cosy place.<\/p>\n

We do like the village. It is fun to walk through the narrow streets with blue flowerpots on the walls. The main square is always alive with tourists. You won’t notice the siesta time here. Life continues as usual. <\/p>\n

Our tip: We like to hike through the mountains above Mijas. Especially in winter, spring and autumn. You will walk with the sun in your face, looking out over Mijas and the sea, and sometimes you can even see Africa. After an hour and a half, you reach the village. We often eat an ice cream or have a good coffee at Mayan Monkey. Children can always be tempted here with a chocolate bar-making workshop.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
