El Torcal is a protected natural park near Antequera in Andalusia. The area consists of limestone rocks that are millions of years old and have been shaped by wind and rain into spectacular rock formations. Millions of years ago, this area was still under the sea. Due to movements in the earth\u2019s crust, the seabed was slowly pushed upwards into mountains more than 1,300 metres high. The limestone was then exposed for millions of years to wind, rain, and erosion. This created the extraordinary rock formations that make El Torcal so famous today. <\/p>\n
Many of the rocks look like enormous stacks of pancakes balancing on top of each other. This gives the landscape an almost otherworldly appearance. <\/p>\n

El Torcal de Antequera is one of the most enjoyable activities in the M\u00e1laga area. Several signposted hiking trails start from the visitor centre. During the walk, you pass through gigantic rock formations, narrow passages, and impressive viewpoints. <\/p>\n

Both walks start at the visitor centre at the top of the mountain.<\/p>\n
Before you drive to the El Torcal Natural Park, check that there isn’t a big cloud hanging over the mountain. If so, take an extra sweater\/jacket with you, as the temperature on top of the mountain can differ by as much as ten degrees from here. <\/p>\n
If you have a few more days on holiday, we advise you to go to El Torcal another time, so you will surely get a nice view.<\/p>\n

During weekends and holidays, El Torcal de Antequera can get quite busy. Because parking space at the top is limited, the road is sometimes closed. In that case, you park at the bottom of the mountain and continue by shuttle bus. <\/p>\n
