Why go flamingo watching at Fuente de Piedra?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Laguna de Fuente de Piedra is the largest flamingo breeding area in Spain and, alongside the Camargue in France, one of the most important flamingo breeding sites in Europe.<\/p>\n

The lagoon is a large shallow salt lake measuring approximately 2.5 by 6.7 kilometres. The lake is fed by rainwater and underground springs. During the hot summer months, much of the water evaporates, leaving behind a layer of salt. Together with the surrounding landscape of olive groves, this creates an ideal habitat for flamingos and other water birds. <\/p>\n

Every year, thousands of flamingos gather here to breed and raise their young. Especially in spring, it is an impressive sight to see so many pink birds together. <\/p>\n

The visitor centre for flamingo watching<\/h2>\n

At the lake, you\u2019ll find a small but informative visitor centre <\/a>where you can learn more about flamingos, migratory birds, and the lagoon\u2019s ecosystem.<\/p>\n

The visitor centre has no restaurant, so you might want to bring your picnic.<\/p>\n

Next to the centre are some waterholes, where you can watch waterbirds and flamingos from a bird-watching hut.<\/p>\n

You can also take a walk along the lake from the centre. Walking around the lake will take too long. The paths are nice and flat and therefore also suitable for prams. Along the way, there are two more observation huts to watch the flamingos and other birds.<\/p>\n
