M\u00e1laga, 10 tips where to go and what to do. If you want to know this, continue reading. M\u00e1laga is an amazing city with lots of options for a day visit or a few days. In this blog, we give you 10 tips on our highlights of the city.<\/strong><\/p>\n

From its origin, M\u00e1laga is a harbour city. From what we have heard from others, it wasn’t a beautiful city twenty years ago. But nowadays the city has had a makeover and the city is full of life. The city centre has a huge pedestrian area and the old buildings are reformed in their past glory.<\/p>\n

M\u00e1laga also has some nice beaches, which gives you the option to have a beach break during your city trip.
\nThere are also many beautiful museums and points of interest in M\u00e1laga. Are you visit on a Sunday, then you can visit many of these sights for free.<\/p>\n

Tip 1: Parking in M\u00e1laga<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We always park our car at the parking Muelle Uno. This parking is spacious and there is always space. Above that, it is in a perfect location, directly at the harbour with many restaurants and terraces.<\/p>\n

Via de harbour or the nice park, ‘Parque de M\u00e1laga’, where you imagine yourself in the Tropics for a moment, you walk directly into the centre. The park is also a lovely place to have a rest and watch people passing by.<\/p>\n

Tip 2: Alcazaba<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The best thing is to walk straight away in the direction of the Alcazaba. It is quite a climb up, but you will be rewarded with a splendid view over M\u00e1laga and the harbour.<\/p>\n

The Alcazaba consist of a Medieval fortification and a Moorish palace, that looks a bit like the Alhambra in Granada, but way smaller. But worth a visit.<\/p>\n

Tip 3: Time for a drink<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Presumably, it will be time for a drink by then. In the city, you can find many places to do so. Would you like to find a special spot, then the rooftop of La Terraza de Alcazaba might be fun or in the nearby El Pimpi, which looks like a covered little street with bars and a restaurant.<\/p>\n

Would you like to try a tapas bar, then we can recommend Casa Lola and also Meson de Cervantes is very good.<\/p>\n

Tip 4: Visiting a museum\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the museum Carmen Thyssen you can see many paintings with Spanish scenes. For a bit more modern art you can visit the Picasso Museum and modern art lovers can make their move to the CAC or Centre Pompidou.<\/p>\n

Tip 5: Covered market<\/strong><\/h2>\n

If you fancy markets, then the Mercado Central de Atarazanas is the place to be for you. Besides vegetable, fish and meat stalls you’ll find cosy tapas bars here. In the afternoon many stalls are closed, so the mornings are the best time to visit.<\/p>\n

Tip 6: Re-energise<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Strolling around in a city can be tiring. What is better than re-energise in a Moorish bathhouse? M\u00e1laga has more than one hammam, but we find Al Andalus a lovely spot. You only need to bring your bathing costume, a towel you will be given there. Here you can enjoy two hours of relaxing in different baths, a steam bath and a cold bath. All in a Moorish atmosphere with candlelight. Very romantic.
\nYou will be all freshened up to continue your city tour.<\/p>\n

Tip 7: Beach time\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The good thing about M\u00e1laga is that from the city centre, you can easily walk to the beach. Playa Malagueta is a beautiful sandy beach with some green little ‘islands’ with palm trees which provide you with some shade. And of course, there are some nice chiringuitos (Spanish beach restaurants) to have a bite.<\/p>\n

Tip 8: Bike ride<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the centre, near the Tourist Information are some bike rental shops. Although biking is not allowed in the pedestrian areas, you can make a beautiful tour along the beach. Better not at the weekends as it might get crowded.<\/p>\n

Via some beaches, you can cycle to Pedregalejo or Rincon de la Victoria. Pedregalejo is an old fishing village with tiny houses and many fish restaurants.<\/p>\n

Tip 9: Getting lost<\/strong><\/h2>\n

You don’t always have to have a plan. Sometimes it is fun just to go where your feet will bring you. The city centre of M\u00e1laga has many car-free streets with beautiful houses, lovely small shops and cosy terraces. You will always find something nice and you will always find your way back.<\/p>\n

Tip 10: Street art<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Once a deprived neighbourhood now a trendy quarter in the heart of M\u00e1laga; Soho. Besides trendy cafes and nice restaurants, you also find some awesome street art.<\/p>\n

A couple of years ago the town hall invited several (international) artists to give this neighbourhood a facelift with some huge murals. The project was called MAUS, M\u00e1laga Arte Urbano Soho.
