M\u00e1laga is one of the top 20 nicest cities to experience the Christmas atmosphere. This is thanks to the many Christmas lights, the Christmas trees in the city, the Christmas market, the nativity scenes and much more. Below you can read how to get into the real Christmas spirit in M\u00e1laga.<\/p>\n

Christmas lights in M\u00e1laga<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The last Friday of November is the day that the Christmas lights in the city of M\u00e1laga are switched on. Every year, the shopping street Calle Larios is transformed into a true Christmas spectacle. A sound and light show can be seen until January 4. Except on 24 and 31 December. There are set times to watch the lights, as we say here; 6.30 pm, 8 pm and 10 pm.<\/p>\n

This year (2024), on 23, 25, 26, 27 and 28 December, the Panda group from Almog\u00eda will perform Verdiales. This traditional music and dance originated in the mountains around M\u00e1laga. You can read more about the verdiales in this blog.<\/a><\/p>\n

Besides the Christmas lights, a 3D sound and light show will be on display at the cathedral in the city centre. Between 1 December and 4 January, you can enjoy this modern technology every evening at 7 pm, 8.30 pm, and 10 pm (no show on 24 and 31 December). This year, there is also a videohe M\u00e1laga town hall on the projection at Edificio de la Casona del Parque.<\/p>\n

For those who want to see even more Christmas lights and decorations, you have to visit Calle San Juan. This street is divided into three zones. The first zone is the Sal\u00f3n Chandelier, which has a romantic atmosphere. The second zone is Cielo Thai, where passers-by can enjoy Thai lanterns. The third zone is La Cueva M\u00e1gica, where you imagine yourself in a cave.
\nThe large trees on La Alameda Principal Street are also lit up, giving a fairy-tale feel.<\/p>\n

Admire nativity scenes in M\u00e1laga<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Nativity scenes can be admired in the city centre of M\u00e1laga The nativity scene in the town hall is the largest. Soon we shall add a route where the nativity scenes can be admired even more.<\/p>\n

Fairytale lights in the botanical garden<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Just outside M\u00e1laga, the Christmas spirit continues. The Botanical Garden in M\u00e1laga will be completely transformed into a Christmas atmosphere with Alice in Wonderland theme. Thousands of lights illuminate the trees and plants in this beautiful garden. A great experience will be on display again this year from 28 November to 6 January (except December 24 and 31) from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm.<\/p>\n

Do not forget to buy an entrance ticket online in advance.<\/a> Prices vary from 11 to 15 euros per person. Because there is limited parking, it is wise to take the special bus to the Botanical Garden in the centre of M\u00e1laga. (Line 91 from Vialia train station, bus ticket you can buy together online with your entrance ticket.)<\/p>\n

Christmas in the province of M\u00e1laga, what to do?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the interior of Andalusia, about 90 km from Finca Las Nuevas, lies the village of Rute. This small village has a high concentration of small museums that make for a fun day out in the Christmas spirit.<\/p>\n

Around Christmas time you can visit the Galleros artesanos & Bel\u00e9n de Chocolate. Here the typical Christmas cookies are made. These biscuits are sold in all supermarkets and stalls in every village and town. The cookies are single-wrapped.<\/p>\n

Besides the cookies, you can also see a huge nativity scene made of chocolate and an exhibition about Turr\u00f3n. Turr\u00f3n, nougat is also a typical Spanish delicacy that is often eaten during Christmas.<\/p>\n

Almost next door is the Museo del An\u00eds, where you can see the history of a liqueur distillery. Also nearby is the Museo del Az\u00facar, where you can see reproductions of the most important buildings of Andalusia and other countries made of sugar.<\/p>\n
