Playing golf in Andalusia is a dream come true for many golfers. Thanks to more than 300 sunny days a year, mild winters, and a huge selection of golf courses, southern Spain is one of the most popular golf destinations in Europe. The province of Málaga and the Costa del Sol in particular are known as Spain’s ultimate golf paradise.
Golf courses on the Costa del Sol
Golfing in Andalusia is by no means boring. An avid golfer can try out a different course every day, so to speak. There are 52 golf courses in the province of Málaga alone. Most golf courses are located on the Costa del Sol, but there are also several courses in the interior of Andalusia.
Are you staying at Finca Las Nuevas? Then you can perfectly combine golf with peace, nature, and authentic Andalusian life. Within a short driving distance, you will find several beautiful golf courses, both in the green inland area and along the coast.
Why is golfing in Andalusia so popular?
Andalusia offers ideal conditions for a golf holiday. The mild climate means you can play golf almost all year round. Even in winter, you can often head onto the course wearing a polo shirt or shorts. In addition, the variety is enormous.
In Andalusia you will find:
- Golf courses by the sea with views of the Mediterranean Sea
- Hilly golf courses in the mountains of Málaga
- Exclusive golf resorts on the Costa del Sol
- Peaceful golf clubs surrounded by olive groves and nature
- Golf courses for both beginners and experienced golfers
There are more than 50 golf courses in the province of Málaga alone. This means that during a golf holiday in Andalusia, you can play a different course every day.
Combining a golf holiday in Andalusia with peace and nature
Many golfers choose to stay along the busy coast, but the inland area of Andalusia has a special charm of its own. At Finca Las Nuevas, you stay in a peaceful green setting among the olive trees, while still being within 30 to 45 minutes of several golf courses.
After a morning of golfing, you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the finca, take a dip in the swimming pool, or relax on your terrace with views of the Andalusian mountains.
That makes Finca Las Nuevas ideal for golfers as well as for partners who do not want to play golf every day.
Golf courses near Finca Las Nuevas
Within about half an hour’s drive from our holiday homes, there are already two beautiful golf courses where we ourselves love to play.
Lauro Golf – golfing among the olive trees
Lauro Golf is located between Alhaurín el Grande and Alhaurín de la Torre, at the foot of the Sierra de Mijas. This golf course has a natural and rural atmosphere. Old, gnarled olive trees line the fairways, and from several holes you have views of Málaga and the Mediterranean Sea.
The golf course has 27 holes, making it easy to spend an entire day golfing here. The last nine holes are located more on the hillsides, so a buggy can be convenient.
What we personally really enjoy is the relaxed atmosphere of the course. After golfing, you can enjoy a delicious meal or a drink on the restaurant terrace, located in an old Andalusian cortijo.
Alhaurín Golf – challenging golf course in the mountains of Málaga
Alhaurín Golf is also beautifully located in the inland area of Málaga, close to Alhaurín el Grande. The course winds through the hilly landscape of the Sierra de Mijas.
Because of the elevation changes, you sometimes have to walk quite uphill, but the views make it all worthwhile. Every hole feels different here. Thanks to the Mediterranean vegetation, wide fairways, and strategically placed bunkers, this course is varied and challenging.
Here, you will use almost every club in your bag. The course has 18 holes, and from the restaurant you have a beautiful view over the hills of Andalusia.
Golf courses on the Costa del Sol
There are also dozens of well-known golf courses along the Costa del Sol. From Finca Las Nuevas, you can easily drive towards Marbella, Mijas, or Málaga for a day of golfing by the sea. Many golf courses are located at resorts or residential developments, but even if you are not staying there, you can usually book a green fee online.
The summer months are often considered the low season for golfers, as it can become very hot in the afternoons. Spring, autumn, and winter are actually perfect for a golf holiday in Andalusia.
